432 EVO high-end version with I2S

The 432 high-end version with I2S is a high-end music server with live 432 Hz retuning, with high-end I2S output board developed by Pink Faun, instead of a high-end USB output:

What is I2S?

I²S, also known as Inter-IC Sound, Integrated Interchip Sound, or IIS, is an electrical serial bus interface standard used for connecting digital audio devices together. It is used to communicate PCM audio data between integrated circuits in an electronic device. The I²S bus separates clock and serial data signals, resulting in a lower jitter than is typical of communications systems that recover the clock from the data stream.

What is the advantage of I2S?

Compared to AES and SPDIF, it has dedicated clock and data signal paths, which results in lower jitter as no clock recovery has to be applied to the signal. The result is better placement of instruments, tighter bass, more precision, ....

Compared to USB, it has the advantage of bypassing the USB to I2S converter in the DAC, as the signal is already I2S. This bypassing of conversion steps is also claimed to improve the sound quality.

Which standards do you support?

I2S exists in a version that uses a HDMI connector and several other variations:

- Bridge with RJ45 connector (TTL)
- Bridge with 4x BNC out (TTL)
- Bridge with 5-din connector (TTL)
- Bridge with HDMI (TTL)
- Bridge with HDMI left/right swapped (LVDS)

With a HDMI connector, the price is 4.000 € for the high-end version with I2S.
With any other connector, the output is custom and slightly higher.

Why is the high-end model better than our standard and mini models?

It adds many features not present in the standard version.

1. spring suspension system

Most music servers on the market use cheap 3.5" green drives from manufacturers such as WD. While these drives claim to be low noise, they still have (seek) noises that can be heard from 10ft (3 meters). To quiet such a drive they are typically put in an enclosure which is decoupled from the music servers case by rubber bumpers. Unfortunately, this solution still passes vibration to the case.

The 432 EVO high-end version solves these problems in a completely innovative way:

  1. no 3.5" drives are used, but only the more expensive 2.5" notebook drives are used in all 432 EVO models
  2. these ultra low noise low power consumption 2.5" drives are than suspended on a custom inhouse built platform that features a spring suspension system
    no microphonics are passed from the HDD back to the enclosure (high-end version only)

The difference with and without spring suspension is so big that we already had customers with the previous top model upgrading to the current state, including the spring suspension system.

2. RAM playback

The high-end version adds RAM playback. We use a technique that works on the fly: when a new music file is played, the file is read into memory in a fraction of a second. It has been implemented in such way that it does not add delays and does not break gapless playback.

By reading the whole file as one big chunk of data, we eliminate further access on the SATA bus. In terms of sound quality, RAM playback relaxes the sound.

3. Overdimensioned linear supplies

Since June 2016, the 432 EVO high-end is powered by a dual Sbooster BOtW supply:

The EVO high-end version now has a dual high-end linear power supply, with separate 12V DC rails for the server and the I2S audio board. This is again one step higher than the HD-PLEX power supply where the separation is still possible, but shared via one common transformer.

4. High-end I2S audio output

The high-end model includes a high-end I2S interface developed by Pink Faun, for which the drivers were integrated into the 432 EVO music server's software build.
As you can see, the card has it's own 12V input which was integrated just below the HDMI output, which transports I2S audio and certainly is not a HDMI audio interface.

The evo high-end version includes wiring guides to make setup a very easy process.

5. SATA filtering

the SATA cabling is electrically noise filtered, eliminating any difference between SSD and regular HDD's (high-end version only)

6. software jitter tuning

We went as far as the measure the software jitter of the 432 EVO using very expensive equipment.
This allowed us to tune the Linux kernel for better sound quality for our current platform.

This special tuning is not present on the ESSENCE and STANDARD model, but makes a big difference!

432 Hz

All evo models add live 432 Hz processing not available anywhere else. Contrary to many youtube 432 Hz demo's, our 432 Hz processing is artefact free and is build on world class DSP. There's no resolution or detail loss, which was verified by 6moons in the 432 Hz plugin review. The 432 Hz processing just does the opposite: the sound will be more enjoyable, there will be more clarity, less fatigue. The sound will become more analog and have qualities unseen in any digital solution. Just read our testimonies available in the left columns.

The 432 Hz plugin works on the fly, and can process any music file from CD quality up to 768 Khz including DXD files. It can also process DSD files: DSD64, DSD128 and DSD256 are well tested.

The evo high-end version music server is very power efficient and is always running cool. The evo high-end version can rip, stream, play internetradio, play music from it's local HDD and optionally from any NAS. We provide 2 TB internal storage options, good for up to 6000 CD's. The storage can be expanded to 6 TB (special request only) and/or extended via a NAS. The evo high-end version is used as a high-end USB transport, that connects directly to your USB dac.

All our 432 Hz music servers are running the same Linux software platform, which is identical in terms of remote control. You can use the official Logitech Squeezebox Controller App (which works for Android and Apple), the builtin webinterface (any platform) or via Apple specific apps such as iPeng and Squeezepad. The 432 evo high-end version also offers internet based software updates from our own update server, which are created and tested by Klinkt Beter and includes remote support via a built-in VPN.


The 432 evo high-end version can be ordered in silver or black. The "warm" coloring in some of the above pictures of the silver version is due to warm lights in our demo room.
It is truly silver and not "crème" (beige) colored.
